H.E. Simon Thomas, British Ambassador to Croatia in a courtesy call on the President of the Constitutional Court

13 April 2022 - President of the Constitutional Court, Dr Miroslav Šeparović, received in a curtesy call today H.E. Simon Thomas, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Croatia. They talked about the jurisdiction of the Constitutional Court, its case management and application of EU law. In this regard the President indicated that the Court applies case-law of both European courts, although the one of the European Court of Human Rights for much longer period of time. They also addressed differences between legal systems of the two countries, given that the constitutional matters in Britain are dealt by the Supreme Court, and the whole system rests on the common-law tradition. At the end they exchanged views on issues following the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union.

Ambassador Thomas arrived in Croatia in July 2021, and before this appointment he served as a Deputy Head of Mission in the British Embassy in Harrare, Zimbabwe.
