SANJA TRGOVAC (1968)

Secretary General (25 February 2025 – )

Graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb in 1992. She passed the bar exam in 1996. She pursued additional professional training at the International Visitor Programme in Washington.

She commenced her career at the law office of Tomislav Tončić and Ivica Urek in Zagreb as a law trainee from 1992 to 1997. She has been employed at the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Croatia since 1997, first as a junior Constitutional Court advisor, then as a Constitutional Court advisor and finally as a senior advisor. In 2008 she joined the Records and Documentation Centre of the Constitutional Court, and was its Head from 2011 to 2019. Until she was appointed Secretary General of the Constitutional Court in 2019 she was Head of the Constitutional Court Advisors’ Service.

During her work at the Constitutional Court, she has managed various programmes related to improving the Constitutional Court’s databases (focusing on drafting Instructions for the Submission of Constitutional Complaints for potential applicants). She worked on communications with the Office of the Agent of the Republic of Croatia before the European Court of Human Rights and served as Deputy Representative of the Constitutional Court in the Expert Council for the Enforcement of Judgments and Decisions of the European Court of Human Rights. She has continuously coordinated the work of the Constitutional Court Advisors’ Service and the work of advisory working groups aimed at periodically informing the Constitutional Court advisors about the latest positions of the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights. She was a member of the Technical Editorial Board of the collection “Selection of Decisions of the Constitutional Court” published from 2010 to 2019. On the basis of the decision of the President of the Constitutional Court she has also been performing the work of Secretary General since 2022.

She is the author and co-author of numerous scientific and expert articles in the field of constitutional law and the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

She has participated in numerous professional seminars and conferences at domestic and international levels.
