8 June 2026 - A delegation from the High People's Court of Beijing Municipality, led by Ms Liu Liming, Director of the Political Department, visited the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Croatia today. Ms Sanja Trgovac, Secretary General of the Court, introduced the guests to the organisation, jurisdiction and functioning of the Croatian Constitutional Court. Particular emphasis was placed on its role in safeguarding constitutionality and legality, as well as in protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms. During the meeting, the participants discussed the constitutional system of the Republic of Croatia and the differences between the two legal systems, as in China the National People's Congress is responsible for the interpretation and implementation of the Constitution. The members of the Chinese delegation showed particular interest in the requirements and procedure for the election of Constitutional Court judges, the mechanisms for ensuring the quality of decision-making, and the guarantees of judicial independence during extraordinary circumstances. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of international cooperation and the exchange of professional experience in strengthening the rule of law, judicial independence, and the protection of citizens' rights.
