President Šeparović gave a speech at Rijeka round table on the five years of Croatian EU membership

28 June 2018 - Marking the five years of Croatian membership in European Union and 45 years of the University of Rijeka and its Law Faculty, the Rijeka University and Rijeka Law Faculty organised a round table titled: "Five years of the Croatian membership in European Union - view from judiciary". In his speech, President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Croatia, Dr Miroslav Šeparović, addressed several issues related to the relationship between the Croatian Constitutional Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union, emphasising that in shaping its own legal views the Croatian Constitutional Court, along the jurisprudence of the Strasbourg Court, also applies the case-law of the Luxembourg Court. In doing so, it starts from its jurisdiction regarding the level of protection of fundamental rights guaranteed in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. Among other things he also acknowledged the openness and readiness of the Croatian Constitutional Court for a dialog with the Luxembourg Court with the aim of realising the common goals. To that light he indicated the institute in Article 267 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
