Regional Conference on the Election of Constitutional Court Judges

5 November 2012 - organised by the Sarajevo Foundation Public Law Centre, the Scientific Gathering and Regional Conference on the Election of Constitutional Court Judges was held in Sarajevo on 2 November 2012. The Conference gathered numerous experts in the field of constitutional law from the region (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Macedonia) who discussed the legal framework related to the election of Constitutional Court judges that would make it possible for persons with relevant professional knowledge and reputation to be elected the Constitutional Court judge. Particular attention was paid to establishing standards for eliminating judges who are not capable to render politically independent decisions as well as to qualifying the notion "highly respected jurist".

The conclusion of the Conference was that political influence cannot be completely eliminated from the election procedure, but that the procedure must entail the requirements for independent and impartial performance of duties of the Constitutional Court judges.

Croatia was at the Conference represented by Dr Teodor Antić, Secretary General of the Croatian Constitutional Court, who introduced the participants to the election procedure of the Constitutional Court judges in Croatia.

CONSTITUTIONAL COMPLAINTS - INSTRUCTIONS
A large number of constitutional complaints are filed by the applicants themselves, without a representative. These submissions, as well as many other constitutional complaints, very often do not meet the requirements for filing a constitutional complaint set out in the Constitutional Act on the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Croatia.

In order to provide assistance to everyone - whether they are the applicants of a constitutional complaint or their representatives - on these pages of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Croatia you can obtain a free form for a constitutional complaint, as well as detailed instructions for completing it.
